Caroline Coen - Founder, The Wave Writers Joins Wave Program as Board Member

Caroline Coen, the leader of The Wave Writers program, has joined The Wave Program as a board member, it was announced by Darryl Smith, Executive Director in May, 2021.

Born at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) and raised in Pacific Grove, Caroline Coen is an alumna of Robert Down Elementary and PG Middle School. She is the Valedictorian of the Pacific Grove High School Class of 2021.

An avid reader and writer, she published her first novel, The Angel Oak, in October 2020. Caroline has served her community on the Feast of Lanterns Royal Court (Queen Topaz 2019), as a volunteer (weekly shelver) at the PG Library, and as founder of the WAVE Writers creative writing program.

She plays the flute and serves currently as the PGHS drum major. She also serves as editor of the PG High School newspaper and yearbook. Caroline has earned varsity letters in four sports (cross country, tennis, soccer, and track and field) and qualified as an individual at the 2019 California Cross Country State Championships.

She looks forward to matriculating at Princeton University in the fall, where she plans to study English and statistics.

Caroline Coen Publishes Novel

The leader of the first WAVE Writer program (done online this past summer due to COVID-19), Caroline Coen, recently had a novel published entitled "The Angel Oak".
The 85,000-word is a work of historical fiction and can be purchased on Amazon in paperback or Kindle format by clicking the picture on the right.

Below is the story’s synopsis:

The year is 1960, and young Georgia Mae Clements is dismayed to be moving with her parents from their home in Macon, Georgia to operate a peanut farm in Lennington, South Carolina. When she meets her new neighbor, however, her world is forever altered. Grady O'Neal's family has lived in a small, dilapidated house on their humble O'Neal Family Peanut Farm for generations. The arrival of fiery Georgia Mae next door opens his eyes to a future he never imagined. Amid the tumultuous 1960s, Georgia Mae and Grady find that the normal challenges of growing up are intensified by the looming Vietnam War. As their friendship blossoms into romance, the prospect of the draft inspires them to join other rebellious youth in protesting the war. When circumstances pull them apart, both Georgia Mae and Grady must learn to fight, albeit different kinds of battles.
