Casey Lucius - Development Director

Casey LuciusCasey LuciusCasey Lucius recently resigned as a Professor of National Security Decision Making at the U.S. Naval War College in order to run for the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to teaching at the War College, she taught at the Naval Postgraduate School where she designed courses on U.S. foreign policy and Asian studies. She also taught courses on culture and U.S.-Vietnam relations at the Hanoi University of International Studies. Prior to her academic work, Lucius worked as the Operations Assistant to the Ambassador at the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi. She also spent nearly a decade in service as a Naval Intelligence officer which included a staff tour at Pacific Fleet Headquarters in Hawaii and a tour on the USS JOHN C. STENNIS aircraft carrier. In 2003, Lucius worked as the intelligence liaison between the U.S. Navy and the navies of Thailand, South Korea, Singapore and Japan. She also worked as a legislative aide in the Ohio House of Representatives.

Casey Lucius earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Hawaii in 2007 and her M.A. in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2002. She is also a graduate of the Naval War College and Ashland University. She has conducted research in China and Vietnam and has published a book on Vietnam’s political system. Lucius serves on the Pacific Grove City Council, as well as several regional boards. She is married to Lt. Colonel Robert Lucius, USMC (ret), and they have one six-year old son, Bobby.

Casey has decided to run for Congress in 2016 for two main reasons. First, because she’s a mom and as a mother she cares about the future direction of our community. Like everyone else, she’s concerned about jobs, water, and the environment. Second, as a professor of national security and a veteran, she’s also concerned about the direction of our country. She is particularly worried that America’s power and influence in the world is in decline. It’s time for new ideas and for a new generation of solutions. Casey is stepping up to offer those new solutions and we hope you will join us in supporting her campaign.
